In the apparent simplicity of a kite lies a profound connection between humanity and nature, between art and science. Let’s Go Fly a Kite unfolds as an enchanting interplay of creative expression and technological exploration, where 31 artists let their visions soar to the skies, carried by the wind and imbued with symbolism.

The desire to pierce the air, to rise higher than our feet could ever take us, is a timeless human impulse. The pursuit of the unattainable, the quest for freedom, and the transcendence of boundaries are embodied by the dancing kites in the sky. Yet, alongside these aspirations comes the awareness of failure and setbacks—a built-in lesson in humility and perseverance that accompanies us on our journey toward the horizon.

As we are carried along by the fickle breeze, we are reminded of the symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature. The kite, a simple piece of fabric and string, becomes an extension of our hands while remaining at the mercy of the elements. In this dance of strength and fragility, a poetic dialogue unfolds between creator and creation, between humanity and the environment.

But Let’s Go Fly a Kite extends beyond mere aesthetics. It embraces the role of kites in technology and science, as precursors to aviation innovation and instruments for meteorological observation. From Leonardo da Vinci’s early experiments with kites to their modern applications in monitoring atmospheric conditions, kites have always served as bridges between imagination and progress.

So let us cleave the air together, lifting our dreams and creations to unprecedented heights. In the vibrant woven patterns of the kites, we see not only a celebration of artistic diversity but also a reminder of our shared human ambition—to fly, to create, to connect. Let’s Go Fly a Kite invites us to explore the horizon, both above and within us, and to keep striving for that elusive piece of sky where freedom and imagination meet.

Let’s go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let’s go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let’s go fly a kite

For years, perhaps even decades, I have cherished a vision of an aerial exhibition—artists designing kites inspired by their own work. Thanks to the collaboration and co-curation with Laurens Mariën of C-mine, this vision has now become a reality.
